Why it matters

Prevention planning depends on knowing how often violence happens and to whom. This is the first state-representative survey of North Carolina youth ages 13 to 17 to measure victimization and perpetration at the same time.

What we’re doing

In Phase 1, we held focus groups with youth and parents, with Prevent First NC, a statewide coalition focused on preventing child sexual abuse. In Phase 2, we are surveying 1,200 youth across six regions of the state, using address-based probability sampling plus targeted online recruitment. We have finished pilot testing the survey and recruitment materials.
